5 Ways to Get Involved With Your Student Union

1. Join a Club or Course Union

Clubs and course unions are the heart of student life. Whether you’re passionate about sustainability, arts, gaming, or cultural advocacy, there’s a club for you. Joining a course union is another great way to connect with peers in your academic program, build your network, and strengthen your resume. Not sure where to start? Attend our SUO Expo to meet club representatives and find your fit!

2. Volunteer with Our Resource Centres

Our SUO resource centres are safe, inclusive spaces designed to support UBCO students. Each centre offers unique ways to get involved:

  • Women’s Resource Centre: Advocate for gender equity and provide support for women and nonbinary students.
  • Peer Support Network: Offer a listening ear to students seeking mental health and wellness support.
  • Indigenous Peoples Collective: Collaborate on events and initiatives celebrating Indigenous culture and history.
  • Sex Positivity Resource Centre: Promote open and inclusive conversations about sexual health and relationships.
  • Pride Resource Centre: Create safe spaces and advocate for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

By volunteering, you’ll make a real impact while meeting like-minded peers.

3. Become a Student-at-Large on an SUO Committee

Want to have your voice heard on important campus issues? Apply to serve as a student-at-large on one of the SUO’s committees! You’ll work alongside your peers to help shape policies, organize events, or advocate for student interests. It’s a rewarding way to contribute while learning leadership and teamwork skills. Check out our social media to keep up with opportunities to join a committee.

4. Run in the Upcoming SUO Elections

Think you’ve got what it takes to be a leader?

Consider running in the upcoming SUO Elections! Whether it’s for an executive position or a Faculty Representative role, you’ll have the chance to influence campus life, advocate for your peers, and make lasting changes. The campaign period begins in February, so keep an eye out for announcements.
