EXPO 2024
On September 18th, we hosted our annual EXPO, showcasing over 140 SUO Clubs and Course Unions! This event gives clubs a chance to share what they’re all about and connect with potential new members. We also welcomed campus and community partners, including SVPRO, GEO, Big White Ski Resort, Quail Ridge Dental, and more!
TAKEOFF CONCERT 2024
On September 20th, 2024, we hosted TAKEOFF, an electrifying concert that brought together 2,000 students for an unforgettable night!
Featuring headliner NLE Choppa, the event was filled with energy, music, and incredible vibes, making it one of the most memorable nights of the year.
Events at The Well Student Pub
We have had such a fun semester of events at the SUO’s very own on-campus pub- The Well!
Some of this semester’s Well Events include:
- TRIVIA NIGHTS: The Well hosted bi-weekly trivia nights including Harry Potter, Pixar, Horror Movies, and Star Wars!
- Boo’s and Brushes Paint Night: We brought back wine and paint nights this semester for Halloween and it was a huge success! Look out for more of these in the new year
- All Ages Parties: We hosted a few very popular all-ages nightclub events at The Well this semester! We had the Mathletes vs Athletes Party, White Lie Party and the Halloween Bash. Look out for more events like these next semester!
Launch of Smart Meals 2.0 Campaign
This semester, the SUO expanded its Smart Meals program with the introduction of Smart Meals 2.0, including the brand-new Smart Meals Breakfast initiative.
Aimed at providing UBCO students with affordable and nutritious meal options, the breakfast program quickly became a favourite among those seeking a healthy start to their day. By addressing the growing need for accessible food on campus, Smart Meals Breakfast not only fueled busy mornings but also reinforced the SUO’s commitment to student wellness and community support. It’s been a delicious and impactful addition to campus life this semester!
SUO Vote Smart Elections Fair
On October 9th, 2024, the SUO hosted the Vote Smart Elections Fair, an exciting opportunity for UBCO students to connect with candidates running in the provincial election.
The event aimed to promote civic engagement and informed voting by providing a platform for candidates to share their platforms, answer questions, and discuss issues relevant to students and the broader community.
Attendees gained valuable insights to help them make informed decisions ahead of the October 19th provincial election. The fair reinforced the importance of student voices in shaping the future through active participation in democracy.
Cultural Events at Picnic
This semester the crew over at The SUO Pantry Foodbank took it upon themselves to host some fun and inclusive cultural events for Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) and Diwali. These were both such fun events that celebrated diversity and acted as an educational opportunity for other students to learn about celebrations from other cultures.
Annual General Meeting 2024
At our Annual General Meeting on November 23rd, we had an amazing turnout of students who wanted to come to exercise their right to vote and bring their own ideas and concerns to the SUO Executives.
There were various regulation changes, and due to time constraints, the meeting was recessed and will continue in the new year.
