Referendum Question for 2024/2025 Ballot
A New Student Building: Your Voice, Your Future
In 2022, students were asked the following referendum question:
“Do you support the Student Union of UBC Okanagan (SUO) advocating for the development of a Student Union Building by engaging in negotiations with the University to secure a site and develop a funding strategy, including an appropriate fee structure, for student consideration at a future referendum?”
The result? 92.3% of voters said YES, signaling strong student support for moving forward with this initiative.
Now, we are at a critical moment in turning that vision into reality. This referendum presents the next step—securing funding for the construction of a new SUO Student Building, a space designed to serve generations of students.
Why This Matters
- A Lasting Legacy – This is about more than just the students of today; it’s about laying the foundation for future UBCO students to have a dedicated, vibrant space that enhances campus life for years to come.
- More Space for Students – With UBCO growing rapidly, the need for student-centered spaces has never been greater. The new building will provide much-needed areas for studying, club meetings, and social connections.
- A Home for Student Life – This facility will house essential student services, create gathering spaces, and support extracurricular activities, fostering a stronger sense of community.
Your Vote Shapes the Future
This referendum is the next step in securing a Student Building for UBC Okanagan. Your vote will determine whether we move forward in creating a space that enhances student experience, supports campus culture, and provides lasting value for years to come.
